Our Plan

Emerging Technology and Innovative Feedstocks for Biodiesel

Did you know used coffee grounds are an excellent source of natural oil that can be used to produce biodiesel? Did you know there is an endless source of power in the fields across the country?

EIC is building a series of biodiesel reactors capable of producing between one and three million litres each. Our first facility will be built in Ontario employing used coffee grounds as its main feedstock. The Executive of EIC is currently meeting with the major coffee retailers and has an agreement in principal with them allowing EIC to capture their coffee grounds from some 500 stores before they enter the public waste system. We estimate that these vendors will provide us with 34 million pounds of wet coffee grounds annually that will be diverted from the Southern Ontario waste stream. The reception from these vendors has been enthusiastic and successful.

We are meeting officials and political leaders in Southern Ontario with a plan to sell all the biodiesel produced at our facilities to their transit systems. This will greatly reduce their carbon emissions and bring them in line with Federal and Provincial mandates.

The Environmental Program of the Year

Our program will divert 34 million pound of coffee grounds from the Southern Ontario waste stream. This initiative will eliminate approximately 400 tractor-trailer loads of garbage shipped to Michigan each year. The impact of this reduction will help municipalities in Southern Ontario become more environmentally responsible.

Our Future

We understand that biodiesel is a transitional solution to reducing greenhouse gases. We aim to help develop effective alternative energy sources in the next twenty years to eliminate the use of fossil fuels.

In the meantime we cannot afford to wait for the ‘eureka’ solution. We will make every effort to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is a building block towards a safer and cleaner atmosphere.

Coffee grounds and algae are only the first step for us. Once the first facility is up and running we have plans for rapid expansion in various municipalities across Ontario.

Our approach to biodiesel is to reduce carbon emissions, finance and encourage new energy research and solutions, create new jobs, assist in defining the new Green economy, and to find a way of getting out of the fossil fuel business.

Emerging Technology

EIC is conducting research and development into the applicability of biodiesel in Ontario locomotives. Results match findings in the U.K. as well as Tennessee, Minnesota, and Texas that integrating 20% biodiesel in diesel locomotives greatly reduces GHG and soot emissions all the while increasing longevity and the durability of engine life.
